报告摘要:Developing fundamental understanding of systems and processes far-from-equilibrium has been identified as one of the grand challenges in science. Time-resolved x-ray techniques have been recognized worldwide as the critical tools to investigate the temporal development of non-equilibrium processes responsible for the control of complex materials and processes, as well as real-time evolution of structures on microsecond to picosecond time scales. At the worldwide synchrotron sources, researchers develop combination of x-ray scattering, spectroscopy and imaging tools in time domain and in a pump-probe fashion to explore ultrafast processes, such as phase transitions in magnetic systems, non-equilibrium phonon dynamics, and propagation of acoustic pulses, strain dynamics of nanoscale ferroelectric switches and nanocrystals, photochemistry in solutions, atomic and molecular physics with high fields, and ultrafast fluid dynamics. In this presentation, I would like to give a brief review of time-resolved research effort in this emerging research area and how new sources and upgrades of existing sources would help advancing the research.
